You can't help but smile when you see this purrmaid necklace. It's a mermaid cat, how cute! It's crafted entirely by hand, all the shapes are handsawn, finished and textured by me making this a OOAK treasure.
There are several parts involved in this. First I sawed out the cat's upper body, tail and starfish. Then I added details and texture with my hammer and stamps. I created a ring from sterling silver wire, soldered it closed and soldered it at the top of the cat's head to serve as a connector. I soldered the cat's body to the tail and then soldered the tiny starfish to look like the purrmaid is holding it.
I'd love to draw your attention to the details. The mermaid tail has a scale-like pattern, the starfish has lines and bumps and the cat has a sweet little face, with eyes, nose and whiskers.
I used my dapping tools to give the tail some curve and volume. It doesn't lie flat.
Cat measures 1 3/4 inches long and 1/2 an inch wide.
From the connector at the top of the cat's head I created a chain, starting with wirewrapped pearl or stone beads. They end, wirewrapped to sterling silver cable chain. You can choose from freshwater pearl, larimar or kyanite.
Mermaid cat, wire and chain were given an antique patina to bring more attention to all those details and then tumbled with steel shot for a burnished shine.
Total length of necklace is 18 inches and it fastens with a handcrafted hook and clasp.
