This amazing quartz has flecks of black and stunning strands of gold in its pattern. It reminds me of fireworks. Given the colors in the stone I chose to mix silver, with a dark patina with 14k goldfill. This is such a stunning pendant!
To create this I formed a fine silver bezel to fit the stone, soldered the bezel to a sterling silver backplate and then sawed out most of the back to let more light into the stone. I shaped sterling silver wire in an oval shape to frame the piece and soldered it to the sterling metal. I sawed away the excess metal and then soldered a sterling silver ring at the top. All the silver was given a dark patina and then I set the stone in place. Once the bezel held the stone securely, I created the gold paddles and attached them to dangle below. At the top I created two gold rings and connected them to the silver ring. The 14K goldfill chain passes through those rings.
The pendant measures 2 2/3 inches long and is 3/4 of an inch wide.
I have the pendant on an 18-inch chain and it fastens with a handcrafted hook and wirewrapped clasp.
